Enzymatic Approach Different Lipases in Biodiesel Production
Product Description
Lipase Super Y is a compound enzyme.
Microorganisms that generate lipase enzyme activity are therefore frequently exploited in the bioremediation of polluted environments in oil. Bacteria which degrade hydrocarbons are omnipresent in nature and use these compounds as rich sources of carbon and energy. Bioremediation has become very significant in removing the harmful contaminants from soil, water, or atmosphere in recent days.
The main function of enzymes, such as lipases, in biodiesel production is to catalyze the chemical reaction known as transesterification. Transesterification is the process by which triglycerides (found in feedstocks like vegetable oil or animal fats) are converted into fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs), which are the main components of biodiesel.
Enzymes accelerate the rate at which transesterification occurs, making the reaction faster and more efficient. Specifically, lipase enzymes act on the glycerol backbone of triglycerides, breaking it down into FAMEs and glycerol. This process occurs under mild reaction conditions, including lower temperatures and atmospheric pressure, which reduces the overall energy requirements for biodiesel production.
